Such a grand show and they were going to ask Danny? Graeme Paine from Hobart was to have directed Les Mis. I don't know if Danny was ever asked or considered. My god. Had no idea politics in the amateur musical world (which we all love & do) was so full-on. There are politics in any organisation, not just amatuer theatre (although there's usually more "drama" involved - sorry for the bad pun). Buff

Di Summers is far more than a choreographer.. Her list of credits as director is large, and she has directed some of the finest shows in recent times.. Anyone who saw 42nd Street or indeed the two Nun shows would have plainly seen a lady with far more talent than just a choreographer!
"the know" I'm not sure how long you have been around the local scene, but some of us vividly remember her excellent direction of Guys and Dolls with an up and coming cast a few years back.... she has certainly not just been a choreographer since "Adam was a boy"!
The word is that Di applied to direct last year but was overlooked by the group who instead appointed her to choreograph. She is a woman with abundant energy who has not directed for over a year now... and in my opinion... the "dead set legend" needs to step up and inject the group with her direction energy and class!

I'd heard all of those shows being "thrown around" as possibilities except "Beauty & the Beast". In my opinion, it would need almost a semi-pro group to pull that show off, just from a technical point of view. Now I've never seen the show live, but from what I've heard the costumes and special effects required are pretty huge. To me it would seem a bit beyond an amatuer group (and I'm not just talking Tassie here - also any mainland groups). I could be wrong (I know I have in the past ) but that's the impression I get. As usual, I won't be going to the meeting. I've gone one meeting at 6pm, and another at 6:30pm, let alone the LMS one..... I'm sick of all these meetings that I have to go to that I don't want to go to, yet miss out on the meetings that I do want to go to...... Buff

All I've heard about the meeting was that it was very short. So short that people were still arriving as the meeting finished "A short meeting is a good meeting" as they say. A report on the Gala Concert was given, a copy of which will be mailed out with the minutes. I don't have details of what the report actually said though. Did anyone get there? Buff

Hi All
The Meeting was the shortest one in history.
Gala Concert: Friday, 11 August at Princess Theatre at 8.00pm with all previous Members being invited to take part. 25th Anniversary Dinner: Saturday, 12 August.
November 3 - 19 (11 shows), Little Shop of Horrors at the Earl Arts with Auditions in June. Director Danny Gibson, Musical Director Christine Clarke and Choreographer Lock Brownlie (I think!) Do not quote me on that one.
A fantastic line up.
Cheers

Just a suggestion to our "Guests" - feel free to register (it is free ) or, if you have registered, log in. That way we know if the postings are from different posters. For example, I'm guessing the last two "guest" posts are different people. Buff

"Footloose" was a huge success from all reports. They had to schedule at least one extra show to cater for all the people who wanted to see it. Next year they are doing "The Secret Garden" Buff

Footloose was quite good - I went to the Saturday matinee on 27 May (which was the extra performance) and it was pretty much a full house, which is terrific support for NW theatre.
Brett Budgeon was in fine voice, and his passionate and energetic performance as Ren was great. Danielle Harris (Ariel) wasn't quite as strong vocally, but made up for it in her acting. Outstanding from the supporting cast was Shayne Frost - the rest of the cast complemented each other well. I particularly liked the duet between the two mothers (Keren Smithies & Carolyn Harris) - a touching moment in a fairly frenetic show. Unfortunately there were some lighting problems that detracted from the overall show, but a great show nevertheless.

I didn't get to see the show unfortunately. I've been to a few of them over the last couple of years. I was actually in Devonport two weeks ago on the Saturday (Buff Jnr was invited to a birthday party) but I had to come back for the Launceston Competitions, otherwise I would have stayed up and gone to the show. The latest happening in Tassie theatre. PTB Entertainment are in rehearsal for "A Chorus Line". The Launceston Players are claiming they have the rights to the show, not PTB. PTB say they have the rights. The fight has now made it into the Examiner Newspaper - 2nd page no less. The two facts I know: 1. I've seen a letter to the Players from Tams-Witmark saying that no other theatre has the rights to "A Chorus Line"; 2. Tams-Witmark have given the rights to a show to two groups at the same time before. The school where I work booked the right to "Annie" in 2001 to be performed in 2002. A few weeks before the school hit the stage, PCYC also performed the show as well. The Players and PTB are going to meet on Monday to sort it out. Buff
