hi,
after many discussions with a couple of friends who are equally as obsessed with wicked and have also seen the broadway production, we have come up with our oz dream cast.
Elphaba= Tamsin Carrol, we were not sure if she had the range in her belt but i am sure she could act those top notes. we threw around Kate from we will rock you, Kaye Tuckerman. it is such a pity Pamela Rabe missed her boat and those singing lessons (amazing actress)
Galinda= Sharon Millerchip has to do it, if you saw kooky tunes you would know why. Lucy Durack also came up as a possibility.
Fiyero= Matt Hetherington would be fantastic. Kane Alexander, would be very clever casting because he played the scarecrow in wizard of oz in syd. David Campbell, opposite Tamsin again maybe.
Nessarose= Lucy Durack, who would be sweeter... the girl is liquid sugar.
Boq= Andrew Koblar, noone else in the country comes close (hats off melb... say no more) someone suggested Matt Lee but that was shot down due to lack of vulnerability.
Madamme Morrible= Judy Conelli, if she would do this role she would be fantastic (Carol Shelley on broadway also originated Frau Schnieder in the Cabaret revival)
Wizard= we were all resisting Bert Newton but what other actor of that age group who would honestly be cast is there. HELP! open to suggestions.
what do you think?

Wow, you know your stuff and your actors. I'm quite impressed with your suggestions. Let's see... Elphaba - I'm not sure Tamsin would be the best choice. It's a bloody hard sing, that role, and if she doesn't quite have the belt range, she'd be too likely to hurt herself. I think Amanda Harrison could do it, though. When I saw We Will Rock You, she was the one who left the greatest impression, and she'd be able to act it, I'm sure. Galinda - I hadn't considered Sharon. I think I was tossing up Nat Bassingthwaighte, but Sharon could do it as well. Fiyero - Kane was my idea for Fiyero. Matt would be good, but I'd be concerned his voice wouldn't hold out. That's just my little quibble with him, though. I always feel as though his voice is tired. Nessarose - Perfect :-) Lucy's an angel Boq - That would be gorgeous. MM - I can see that. Wizard - It's a hard one. I want to say Mitchell Butel with some make-up help, but that would be a stretch. I suppose Bert could do it. There's got to be someone else, though. And for anyone who doesn't know the show, there are good sound clips for a lot of the leads here www.wickedthemusical.com/sound_clips.htmIdina Menzel is Elphaba, Kristin Chenoweth is Galinda, Joel Grey is the Wizard and Norbert Leo Butz is Fiyero. (Listen to Dancing Through Life. It's so Kane) All that's inspired me to post a couple of my other casts I have listed. Compulsive casting is a vice of mine

Wow, you are both so comprehensive! I'm going to throw a spanner in the works though because I too have discussed this MANY times with some friends (many of whom would KILL to be cast in the show) and with a couple of mates who are on Broadway at the moment but who very much know our Aussie casts! Elphaba= Amanda Harrison would kick butt at this role. She's just brilliant. Pure and simple, would sing and act the hell out of it! Interestingly, I saw this role done in a character workshop from the VCA's Musical Theatre Foundations course and one of the girls from there (and I'd have to go home to find her name) was BRILLIANT in singing/acting the role of Elphaba in the song "Defying Gravity" so if you were looking for an upset... cast her! Galinda= Nat Bassingthwaite all the way! Nat is very similar to Kristin in many ways and would be brilliant in the role... but lets face it, Neighbours won't let her go, so I'd probably put Sharon there yeah! Fiyero= This will surprise few people who know me well, but I would put John Hoffman in this role. He's been studying on Broadway for the last three years, and I can't even tell you how much of an amazing performer he is now! He can sing, dance and act better than most of our current leads in Australia! He's just returned from Boston where he was in Aida and would kick butt as Fiyero... plus he's got the whole dark and mysterious thing going! Thern Reynolds would also be great in this role as would Matt Lee... If David Campbell was cast I think I would not go out of principle... the boy is great but NOT suited to this role! Nessarose= I've not ever seen Lucy Durack so we'd discussed a range of people from Sally Bayes to again, Nat Bassingthwaite for this role. Renee Berry would also be great. I love that girls voice! Boq= I disagree about Matt Lee's vulnerability as he's a brilliant actor. We had nobody else but Matt for this role! Madamme Morrible= We wanted Maria Mercedes for this, but that's because she is the most under-rated performer in Australian Musical Theatre... the woman can sing people.... floppen start using her! Wizard= Bert Newton was the only name we could really come up with... but then it was discussed that he would be better in Hairspray, so it would depend on if the shows were out at the same time... Mitchell Butel would be brilliant if he was older (not that age really matters)... Tony Sheldon would be quite good also! Michael Cormick would be brilliant but perhaps again, wasted in this role? What do you guys reckon? I'm curious as to who other people would cast!

Fiyero= This will surprise few people who know me well, but I would put John Hoffman in this role. Not Kane?! Colour me surprised And Lucy Durack's only two years out of WAAPA, so it isn't a surprise you don't know her. I wouldn't know her if it wasn't that I'm friends with Matt Robinson, and she was down here to see one of his shows last year, so I met her then.

Now you know I love Kane... and true love lasts a life-time haha! But John is one of my best friends and he would KILL me if I didn't cast him in Wicked... plus he's one of the only Aussies to actually have already auditioned for Wicked... and he's amazing... etc etc... But if they don't fly my Hoffy out to be in it... then Kane yes... would be very good!

I didn't know anything about Maria until Fame... now I'm one of her biggest fans and kicking myself I hadn't seen her in anything before Fame! My mother was a fan of hers from her Prisoner days... she freaked out when I told her I knew Maria! haha! So funny!
Maria was awesome in Rocky Horror... did you see it?

RHPS was okay... it was great to see Nat back onstage. Maria was awesome (and so damn sexy... should have seen her at the afterparty... she looked HOT and I'm a chick! My guy friends were drooling every time she walked past!) She certainly was the sexiest Franknfurter ever. The rest of the cast were okay too... Blair was a bit ho-hum but we'll forgive him because he's so darn cute, and clearly NOT a musical theatre boy! But overall, for what it was, it was a VERY good show! I had stacks of fun!
But Maria has to be in Wicked, especially if Hoffy is in it... they LOVE each other! (ooohh that'll get the gossip mungers chatting haha!)

Just one addition. I've been informed that James Millar would be fantastic as Dr Dillamond (the goat).

Dr Dillamond (the goat). Tsk. That's an insult to Animals. Dr. Dillamond is a Goat (Sorry, Wicked in-joke )

Hi Guys
Firstly - make sure you always stay tuned to BroadwayAustralia.com for all the latest Wicked news. Whenever there's a rumour about, we're normally the first to either confirm it's a possibility or deny it.
Secondly, I have been fortunate enough to see this show twice on Broadway.
Glinda is the huge problem for Australia in my view. There's more than enough people who could take the role of Elphaba - Kate Hoolihan and Kaye Tuckerman would have to lead the way.
I think as far as Glinda is concerned we may be looking too much at looks as opposed to vocal quality here. That's not to say Natalie and Sharon aren't superb - they are - but lets remember Jennifer Laura Thompson (who is currently playing Glinda on Broadway) is actually a red head (and I'll point out nobody recognises her at stage door).
I've got a few people in mind re Glinda - Rachael Beck is one that keeps coming up from people.
Andrew Koblar & Kane Alexander suggestions are spot on.
It will ultimately depend on how similar they want to make it to the Broadway production.

I think Sharon would be a good Glinda - she has the voice, and could be pesky and annoying but still endearing. I thought of another Glinda but dare not say her in case I just get howled down Still figuring that one out though. Vocally - more a Chenoweth than a JLT, but not sure about pesky and annoying.
